The ROI story of VEGA
Regularly, Jürgen Schuijren, Managing Director at VEGA Meet- en Regeltechniek, is looking for new colleagues who fit his organization for the long term. The focus here is increasingly on personality, rather than knowledge and experience. He tells what that brought him last year. This is his ROI story.
My expectations beforehand
When we started looking for a new account manager last year, I had clear expectations. We wanted to reorganize our work area to better serve customers and for that we needed an extra force. For this we hired Jarno. The additional hiring of Joris came about more by chance through a tip from Egon, Managing Consultant at Velde. That was a unique opportunity. Although we didn’t have a specific vacancy, we saw in Joris someone we were eager to employ.
Indeed, in recent years we have started to focus more and more on personality when selecting candidates. Of course we want dynamic, enthusiastic and driven people, but more importantly: people who want to learn, are coachable and fit in with us for the long term. That did make the search more challenging, but with Velde as a partner I trusted them to find the right candidates. After all, they have proven that more than once.

The reality of collaboration
Working with Jarno and Joris has exceeded my expectations. At VEGA, new employees always begin with an onboarding process of six to eight weeks. During that time, they receive training, walk through various departments and are supervised by an experienced colleague. This tandem construction ensures that new employees not only learn about our products and working methods, but also receive active feedback on their approach.
Jarno developed fantastically in his first year. He asked a lot of questions and brought fresh insights to the team. This is something we greatly appreciated, as he challenged not only himself but also his colleagues. Joris set up a totally new project specifically focused on the hydrogen market, an important area for us. He has gathered information that is proving valuable not only in the Netherlands, but even within Europe.
Both gentlemen have shown that they are more than good salesmen; they actively contribute to the knowledge and cooperation within VEGA.
The impact on me and VEGA
Personally, I find it inspiring to work with new colleagues. They ask questions that I sometimes stop thinking about myself. Jarno and Joris have made me realize how important it is to keep learning and developing, also for myself. Their enthusiasm is contagious and reminds me why I do this work.
For VEGA, the impact is clearly tangible. Jarno has achieved almost 20% growth, and that in his first year! He has even set up new projects completely independently, and we are now reaping the benefits. Joris has brought us valuable market information, which not only gives us new opportunities, but also helps us to make strategic choices.
Most important is the energy and dynamism they have added to the team. They are not only successful, but fine colleagues who provide connection within the group. That makes the work more productive and more fun. In short, the arrival of Jarno and Joris have brought a lot to both me and VEGA. I am looking forward to what the future will bring us.
